St. Vincent DePaul
St. Vincent de Paul Villages, Inc. is recognized as
the nation's leading rehabilitation program for homeless men, women, and
families with children. The
mission of St. Vincent de Paul Villages, Inc. is built on the belief of
empowering our neighbors to turn their lives around. This holistic approach to rehabilitation is called
"continuum of care" and offers a wide array of services and programs aimed at
developing the whole person.
Outreach opportunities: Serve the homeless
of San Diego by preparing meals and feeding them.
San Diego Food Bank
The San Diego Food Bank's
mission is to provide food to people in need, advocate for the hungry, and
educate the public about hunger related issues. The San Diego Food Bank
recovers nearly 600,000 lbs of food each year, distributes this food to over
275 local charities, partners, and provides food for 268 other distribution
sites each month.
Outreach
opportunities: clean
and sort food, work on bag or box assembly lines, help with other warehouse
duties, and more.
Habitat for Humanity, ReStore-
The
ReStore, our home improvement outlet store open to the public, helps to fund
our operations and the construction of new homes through the sales of donated
building materials. Outreach Opportunities: help keep the store
organized and presentable, to price and stock items, and to assist customers.
Lutheran Social
Services-
LSS/SC is
a non-profit agency, which has served in partnership with its congregations and
supporters for more than 60 years. The agency continues to show a passion for
Christ and HIS Church by the delivery of social services that affect outreach
and social justice.
Outreach
Opportunities: help clean-up, wash windows, and pull weeds for seniors in
Mobile Home Park.
San Diego Park
and Rec.-
The Park
and Recreation Department offers various volunteer opportunities at Recreation
Centers, Golf Complexes, Swimming Pools, Regional Parks and Open Space Parks
and Preserves.
Outreach Opportunities:
Contributing to the beautification of a community, neighborhood, regional or an
open space park.
Helping to
restore a native environment, improve wildlife habitat and plant native plant
material.
